How to apply

Thank you for your interest in Beth Yeshurun Day School! You’re one step closer to joining our BYDS Family!

BYDS has served as Houston’s first in the Houston Community for 70 years as the first Jewish Day School in Houston. It is a school designed to prepare students with the skills and foundation to excel in a more global society. Our teachers partner together to deliver a creative, collaborative and enriching learning experience from the beginning of each child’s education journey through their fifth-grade graduation. We aim to create educational experiences that engage our students in an authentic quest for Tikkun Olam (repairing the world) and Tikkun Middot (personal spiritual growth).

Admission Screening and School Visit

Once the application materials are received, the applicant will be scheduled for a classroom visitation day for Kindergarten – 5th Grade applicants. Your child will be screened to determine his/her grade readiness, and you will have an opportunity to speak with an administrator.

*Applicants for Infants, CDO, 2s, 3s, and Pre-K do not participate in a visitation day or evaluation but are invited to visit with their parents.

Admission Decision

The admissions committee meets on a rolling basis and considers an application once the appropriate documentation, fees, and evaluation are received and assembled into a complete application file. Parents are notified as soon as possible of the final admissions decision, and the application process is considered complete when a school contract is signed.

If your child is accepted, you will receive an acceptance letter from the school.

Enrollment

After you receive your acceptance letter from the school, we will provide you with an Enrollment Contract through your Blackbaud Portal. Please sign and submit your online enrollment contract and complete enrollment forms. The process is considered complete and your child’s spot secure once the enrollment contract is signed and the deposit has been paid.

Blackbaud Portal

Waitlisted?

You’ve Been Put on the Wait List for BYDS. Now What?

What is a wait list/wait pool?

A wait pool is a group of prospective students who would like to be considered for enrollment in a closed grade. A wait pool does not guarantee enrollment, as there needs to be enough students to consider adding additional students or opening an additional class. Students in the wait pool must meet all admission requirements.

When will I learn whether or not I have been admitted?

The admissions committee may make offers of admission throughout May, especially if we will be opening a new section of a classroom. We are on rolling admissions throughout June, July and August and decisions will be relayed with enough time to be fully prepared for the first day of school.

Where do I stand on the waitlist? What number am I?

The wait pool is not numbered nor ordered in any way. If the admissions committee elects to make offers from the wait pool, it does so in the same manner as it selects from the regular applicant pool.

Should I submit my tuition deposit at another school?

If your second-choice school has a deposit deadline, we suggest you wait until close to the deadline to ensure BYDS is not planning to offer you a space before then. As the deadline approaches, please contact the admission office to check our wait pool status.

What can I do to increase my chances of being admitted?

Please continue to send updated or new information: updated records, new or additional teacher recommendations, or a letter from you indicating your interest. Feel free to contact the admission office to check on the wait pool status. Should a space become available we will notify you.
