What is your most memorable moment at BYDS so far?
When I returned from a trip to South Africa, the kids were so excited to see me. They hugged me and wanted to know what animals I saw (lions, cheetahs, ostriches, elephants, rhinos) and they lit up.
Did anything or anyone inspire you to become a teacher?
My husband taught little kids at a tennis camp one summer and then next summer, he got me to join him and I had so much fun with the kids that I decided to get into teaching.
Have you ever met someone famous?
I met Dame Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev. I also met Max and Nev from the TV show “Catfish.”
What are you “free” reading right now?

Cynthia Martinez, Lead Pre-K Teacher
Did anything or anyone inspire you to become a teacher?
In grade school I was that student that couldn’t sit still, would not stop talking and was continually disrupting the class with my sense of humor. Simply put, I was that student that was very challenging to teach. I remember those few teachers that truly looked at my potential versus my challenges. The ones that did not listen to the predetermined assumptions other educators made and strived to inspire me to not only meet my grade level targets but encouraged me to reach much higher. Because of teachers like Mr. Miller and Mrs. Bee, I not only did well in college, but I maintained a high GPA and was admitted into my universities honor association. I long to be a teacher like that. One that is always looking for potential in every student.
Where would you travel to for one month?
I have not been blessed enough to travel much but I would love to go somewhere with a beautiful beach, tropical drinks, and great dancing music.
What is your favorite meal? (to eat, that is, not cook)
I am not a picky eater. I love oven brick pizza or Thai food. However, the company is more importance than the food. Enjoying a meal with great company is what I consider my favorite meal.
